Yesterday I was at a popular midtown lunch spot with friend and online consultant, David Markovich, where we were fortunate to meet Joe Lhota, the leading Republican candidate for the next mayor of New York City. We spent some time talking with Joe and his political consultant, Jessica Proud, hearing more about his campaign and getting to know the man beyond the polished image we are provided on television.
Joe’s name may not currently be as well known as another mayoral candidate, Anthony Wiener, who has provided tremendous national “exposure” for this hotly contested race for New York City mayor. But Lhota’s accomplishments in city government are considerable and they speak for themselves. His most recent experience in the public sector includes a short but successful period as Chairman and CEO of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), a most challenging position in a city which revolves around its subway system. Earlier in his career Lhota served as New York City finance commissioner and later became the director of the office of management and budget. Subsequently Lhota became former Mayor Rudy Guiliani’s hand picked choice as deputy mayor of operations. Rudy Guiliani has frequently lauded Lhota’s extensive knowledge of the city’s complex financial operations – you could say that “Joe knows budgets.”
Joe Lhota – Up Close and Personal
Joe invited me to reach out to him again in the future. I am hoping that he will be able to provide us with some time for a short follow up article that we would publish in The Law Journal covering some of Joe’s thoughts on the most important legal topics that concern New York City residents. In the meanwhile, best of luck to you Joe Lhota – you certainly made a good first impression on this New York City voter.
