Removal of Google +1 PlusOne, Social Media Tagging

There are a couple of reasons why we are removing Google +1 from the forums and from the entire website and I’ll explain them to you. For those of you who didn’t notice or know what that “+1 icon” was for, that’s Google PlusOne.

To begin, it’s difficult to know how useful social media tagging is on a site like ours, where most users want to be free to discuss their opinions and obtain legal information and insight while remaining anonymous. Social media tagging does not allow this to occur, since it inherently is to share useful or valuable information with others. Hence, nobody would want to tip others off as to a misdemeanor arrest by clicking a like or +1 button that would alert friends (“Hey man, what were you doing there in the first place?”)

Another reason why Google’s +1 button is being removed from the site, even areas which aren’t topic specific, is as a result of horrendous Google results since Google tweaked its search algorithm, also known as “Panda.” There have been different stages of Panda, the latest intended to reduce the search engine results for poor content, spun content or general content aggregators whose content has limited value.
